Opening minds through film. Inspiring action to create compassionate and healing systems and societies.
Our documentaries tackle intellectually and emotionally complex topics. The response has proved to us that audiences are up to the challenge. In addition to special screenings at local theaters around the country, our films have been screened at film festivals, universities, state legislatures, court systems and the United Nations Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Our documentaries have been incorporated into trainings throughout the country and internationally, for professionals working in systems including criminal justice, corrections, juvenile justice, mental health, substance abuse, domestic violence, sexual assault and social services. Behind Closed Doors and Healing Neen are currently being distributed by the National Center for Trauma-Informed Care, funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, and the Maryland Disability Law Center.

Beginning with a nightmarish childhood filled with beatings at the hands of her drunken mother and sexual assaults by neighborhood men, Tonier “Neen” Cain’s life spiraled down into crack addiction, homelessness and multiple arrests. At her lowest point, pregnant and incarcerated, she was offered her first break—the chance to go to a community trauma, mental health and addictions program. Safe at last, Tonier began to heal and embarked on a boundless “upward spiral.” Today she travels the country, speaking to professionals and those still living at the margins of society, spreading her message “where there’s breath, there’s hope.” Feature running time: 54:03 Short version running time: 25:09
"It was beautifully and lovingly produced. It had Narrative drive and energy. It was technically astute. It was filmically stylish. It was pretty close to perfection. Bravo."
